DENT245                                       Oral Diagnosis and Oral Radiology I

 

This course will cover the physics of ionizing radiation, biological effects of radiation, radiation safety and protection, dental X-ray machine and X-ray tube, X-ray films and sensors, digital imaging, intraoral and extraoral radiographic examinations. This course will cover the physics of radiation, its biological effects, how to avoid radiation, structures of X-ray machine, intra/extra-oral imaging techniques, imaging mistakes, digital radiography techniques, conic beamed dental volumetric tomography, radiographic images of normal anatomic formations, radiological images of patients giving x-ray findings, and possible artefacts on radiographies.

DENT213                                             Introduction to Inherited Dental Disorders

 

This course is designed to provide dentistry students with a fundamental knowledge of inherited dental disorders. In this course, inherited dental developmental defects, rare genetic and autoimmune diseases, genetic abnormalities and pathologies will be explained with a focus on oral manifestations. The etiology of inherited dental disorders will also be discussed in the lectures, and current diagnostic and treatment technologies will be assessed both in pre-clinical and clinical stages. During the lectures and seminars, genetic mutations and variations that affect the development, structure or function of teeth and oral tissues will be explained. The challenges in the clinic will be evaluated.

This course will include the dental caries definition, microorganisms that can make caries, the formation of dental plaque, the importance of saliva, the properties of saliva, the effects of fluoride on caries, and the importance of the methods for determining the risk of caries. This course will cover the pathology of enamel, dentin, and cementum, prevention of caries, remineralization, direct and indirect pulp capping treatments, and types of dental anomalies.

DENT273                                                 Endodontics I

 

This course will cover description of endodontics, list of methods and requirements of practical applications, introduction to endodontic equipment, anatomic properties of teeth, practice with endodontic access cavities, measurement systems through a channel and use of X-ray in endodontics. Choosing teeth on which to sample works and placing them in transparent blocks, preparing these teeth for root channel filling and filling the root channel system. X-ray applications, determining channel span and evaluating the channel filling. This course will include the structure of dental pulp, pulpal diseases, structure of periapical tissues and related diseases, pulp capping, amputation, preparing teeth for root canal therapy and opening the access cavity, mechanical operation of root canals, irrigation and disinfection of root canals, canal expanding, root canal filling techniques.
